Heritage Library Foundation to receive $5,000 from the PGA TOUR

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (December 17, 2020) – The Heritage Classic Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting educational and charitable initiatives to enhance the quality of life and economic vitality throughout South Carolina, is proud to announce the Heritage Library Foundation and Martha Stichweh were named finalists in the PGA TOUR’s Annual “Best Of” Awards.

The Heritage Library Foundation was a finalist in the Charity of the Year category. The mission of Heritage Library Foundation is to promote the study of local history and ancestry throughout the community. The Heritage Library is a premier history and ancestry research center and named as one of the top ten places in the world to conduct family research. They are the repository for Hilton Head Island history dating from the time of Native American inhabitants through colonization, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and modern development.

The award comes with a $5,000 grant from the PGA TOUR to assist HLF in expanding their online resources. The funds will help create four videos that teach lessons around Hilton Head Island historic sites and the period they are from. Students will be utilized in the production of these videos from creating scripts, working with a videographer, participating as living history characters and editing the final products. The videos will be available to local schools, parents and libraries.

Martha Stichweh was named a finalist in the Volunteer of the Year category. Martha is the Chairman of the Caddie Operations committee. 2020 has been a strange year for everyone, but the RBC Heritage had a unique situation when the April event was canceled and then brought back in June as the second "Return to Golf" event. Everyone was learning what this new event would entail week by week. Staff and volunteers had to be flexible with the ever-changing guidelines and requirements. Martha was no exception; her committee was given more responsibilities than they would normally oversee. She took every new procedure or change with grace and accepted the challenge.

“The Heritage Classic Foundation and the RBC Heritage were honored to nominate the Heritage Library Foundation and Martha Stichweh,” said Steve Wilmot, President of the Heritage Classic Foundation. “The HLF brings Hilton Head Island’s rich history alive for visitors, residents and students. The classes and events they conduct are educational and interactive.” Steve went on to praise Martha’s dedication to the RBC Heritage. “The staff greatly appreciates Martha and her attention to detail. We always know that Martha and her Caddie Operations team can handle pressure while still creating a welcoming and safe environment for the caddies.”
