The Tartan Invitational Celebrates South Carolina  

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. —The Heritage Classic Foundation is proud to announce a new golf opportunity during the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing.  In 2018, the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing will be celebrating its 50th playing of the iconic PGA TOUR event at Harbour Town Golf Links. Since it began in 1969, the RBC Heritage has been a permanent staple on the PGA TOUR schedule and is extremely important for Hilton Head Island and the state of South Carolina. The event generates a $96 million economic impact for the state each year and has contributed $38 million to local charities.  

The Tartan Invitational at Atlantic Dunes is an exclusive 80 player golf event pairing each group with a special South Carolina personality. Honorary guests may be a PGA TOUR professional, a musician, an athlete, an actor or politician. Confirmed special guests include tennis hall of famer Stan Smith, Heisman recipient George Rogers, All American Clemson Quarterback Steve Fuller, Green Bay Packer Pro-Bowler Sterling Sharpe, College Basketball Coach Bobby Cremins and Bravo reality star Shep Rose. Additional special guests will be announced in the coming weeks.  

The event will take place on Wednesday, April 11th at Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III in the Sea Pines Resort.  

“Atlantic Dunes was voted the 2017 golf course of the year by the National Golf Course Owners Association,” said RBC Heritage Tournament Director Steve Wilmot. “This is your opportunity to enjoy a great day on an award-winning golf course with friends, colleagues and a featured guest, while investing in the future of South Carolina.”  

“The contributions from the Tartan Invitational will make an impact on the young golfers in our programs,” said South Carolina Junior Golf Association Executive Director Biff Lathrop. “We feel fortunate to be a part of this exciting new event celebrating the 50thRBC Heritage Presented by Boeing.”  

Included with each playing spot are two RBC Heritage Clubhouse Badges, a parking pass, a gift package and two invitations for the breakfast and awards reception.

BOBBY CREMINS: played college basketball at the University of South Carolina from 1966-1970. He is a retired college basketball coach, having formerly served as a head coach at Appalachian State, Georgia Tech, and, most recently, the College of Charleston.  

STEVE FULLER:  played college football at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina from 1975-1978 and was a football and academic All-American. He played professionally for the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears.  

GEORGE ROGERS: is a former college and professional football player who was a running back in the NFL for seven seasons during the 1980s. Rogers played college football for the University of South Carolina, earned All-America honors and won the 1980 Heisman Trophy. He was the first overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft, and he played professionally for the New Orleans Saints and Washington Redskins of the NFL.

SHEP ROSE: is a Hilton Head Island native and a cast member on the reality television series Southern Charm. It made its TV debut on March 3, 2014 on Bravo.  The series chronicles the personal and professional lives of seven socialites who reside in Charleston, South Carolina. He went on to star in RelationShep, another Bravo reality show.  

STERLING SHARPE: is a former football wide receiver and analyst for the NFL Network. He attended the University of South Carolina and played from 1988 to 1994 with the Green Bay Packers.  

STAN SMITH: is a former world No. 1 American tennis player and two-time Grand Slam singles champion who also, with his partner Bob Lutz, formed one of the most successful doubles teams of all time. To non-tennis players, Stan Smith is probably best known for his line of Adidas tennis shoes.

Celebrating its 50th year in 2018, the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing is the only PGA TOUR event in South Carolina. Played over the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island since 1969, the event is set for April 9-15, 2018.
