“Cheers to 50 years!”
Special anniversary logo and tagline unveiled to honor milestone event
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Celebrating 50 years is a major milestone. In just under 50 weeks, the 50th annual RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing will take place at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina’s only PGA TOUR golf tournament.
The 50th annual RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing golf tournament is scheduled for April 9-15, 2018.
Tournament organizers will tee-off this major milestone with a special anniversary logo and tagline: “Cheers to 50 Years.”
Today, the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing is the only annual PGA TOUR event in South Carolina and the largest sporting event in the state. But back in 1969, nearly everyone had to reach for a map to discover Hilton Head Island’s whereabouts. Harbour Town Golf Links was brand new and the inaugural Heritage Classic was scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend. Good fortune smiled on the Harbour Town Golf Links when Arnold Palmer won that first Heritage. It was his first victory in 14 months, and the media cranked out volumes of glowing copy about Arnold’s victory, Harbour Town Golf Links and Hilton Head Island.
“We are honored and humbled to celebrate this milestone in our tournament’s history,” said Steve Wilmot, tournament director of the RBC Heritage. “This is a testament to the tremendous support of our fans, volunteers, sponsors, partners, and golfers who make this event possible each year. I always say we work to be better, get better, and do better, and this year is no different, in fact, it’s extra special. We have a lot planned for the 50th and I can’t wait for golf fans from across the state and country to experience what the RBC Heritage is all about.”
There will be additional activities and events to commemorate the 50th anniversary. Apex Broadcasting, the tournament’s official radio station, will highlight 50 RBC Heritage tournament memories. PGA TOUR Entertainment is producing a 3-minute video highlighting the best of 50 years and all the past champion portraits will be displayed at the Art League of Hilton Head Gallery in March. Tournament week festivities will include a special Opening Ceremony featuring past champions, a golden anniversary reception and special commemorative badge and poster.
“Plaid Nation is certainly the theme in all our 50th anniversary events, but we are not done planning. The Heritage Classic Foundation board and staff will have more exciting news to share throughout the upcoming year,” Wilmot added.
