HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Two organizations have joined forces to offer an exclusive artistic exhibit with a golf and golden twist for all locals, particularly sports and history enthusiasts, in celebration of this year’s golden anniversary on Hilton Head Island. The RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing and Art League of Hilton Head welcome community members to the special exhibit, called The Art of Golf, Celebrating 50 Years of Golf Champions, for a very limited time. On display are reproductions of the famous handcrafted, one-of-a-kind portraits featuring each RBC Heritage champion to date.

The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, March 1-31. Additionally, it will be open 90 minutes before all Arts Center of Coastal Carolina performances.

An opening reception, with members of the RBC Heritage and Art League available for dialogue and photos, will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 7. It is free and open to the public. Special “plaid swag” will be raffled off during the event.

“We are proud of this tournament and these signature portraits,” RBC Heritage Tournament Director Steve Wilmot said. “This year marks our 50th anniversary. It’s a year-long celebration, particularly in the next two months leading up to the tournament. We have worked tremendously hard to make this year’s tournament extra special for our entire community. This exhibit and partnership with Art League is another way (and place) we can say ‘Cheers to 50 Years!’ I can’t stop wondering who will be the PGA TOUR golf professional featured on the 2018 portrait. We’ll find out very soon!”

The artwork displayed represent the work of two honorable and nationally recognized artists in Hilton Head: Coby Whitmore and West Fraser. Whitmore painted champion portraits between 1969 and 1987, while Fraser’s work represents champion portraits from 1988 to present. Original portraits are housed in the Harbour Town Clubhouse.

Tickets and sponsorship opportunities for the 50th annual RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing are still available by calling 843-671-2448 or visiting rbcheritage.com.
